opened MIFI

Opened MIFI as it bounced at 6EMA if uptrend remains could push much higher.
5.45
Stop: 5.25

Opened NFLX

Netflix had great earnings. I bought yesterday's doji as the pull back initially failed
stop at 440.50

Closed ZIOP

ZIOP got a fantastic move another test and it rocketed up.   I sold a chunk off at 9.12 and  then moved my stop up and went for a trailing stop.  Ultimately I was stopped out at 9.03

Entry: 8.56
Exit 1: 9.12
Exit 2: 9.03

Closed HYGS, MOC, SBUX.

HYGS and SBUX showed signs of potential but faded.

HYGS: could not hold the breakout. Got out.

Entry 15.29
Exit 14.65

SBUX:
SbUX  looked like it was going to pop this morning as it broke but then faded with the market.  I held my stop and took.
Entry: 88.77
Exit 87.73

MOC:

Entry 3.08
EXIT: 2.38 for a 2% portfolio hit.
I thought this was a perfect fish hook set up until it got crammed back down.  I should have been tight on the stop but it was not a large portion.  The problem was less price moved against me but that the volume is gone.  I see no point in waiting for things to turn.

Opened ZIOP

I opened ZIOP as I liked yesterdays move to reclaim the momentum.  I see today's pull back as a low risk entry Back test of the breakout.

Entry: 8.55
Stop: 8.15

opened, HYGS, SBUX

This was a stick that I've traded before.   I  loved this chart as we have linear action followed by an above average volume breakout.  Today was continuation day I bought and the move continued.

Entry: 15.29
This stock has many positives, and a small float this move could  run to 19+

SBUX:
High volume  gap move, failed pull back, push ahead= Fish hook.  The market was weak so SBUX gave back a lot of the push today . But has bounced back in AH.  If the market does not collapse this has the potential  to make a 10-20% move from this point.

The weekly shows a cup and a handle break out from the 10 week average. previous runs have tracked the 10 very well and moved from 55 to 80 before topping out and curving out a bottom.

Closed PSXP

PSXP ran into resistance at 80 and then reversed.  Pisses me off.  As it reversed, I was not interested in letting profits turn to loss so I banged it out at 77.

I let $3.00 of profits get away to settle with a small .60 profit.  The problem on this trade was the entry the proper place to buy the b/o was 70.  I bought too high so I could only catch the end of the move and then settle for a small profit.  I like this play but It needs to rest .   I'll target 72.5 for a re-entry or at a minimum the 6 EMA.

on the plus side. I'm bitching about a profitable trade.  First rule of trading protect your capital. I did so here.

Entry: 76.40
Exit 77.

Closed: USLV, BCLI

I was stopped out of USLV for a decent profit. I tried to give it room but I didn't want to give more back. My compromise ended in closing the trade at 28.44

Entry: 25.88
Exit 1: 26.94
Exit 2: 28.44  (stop at .65, damn slippage) 9.89%

BCLI:
BCLI recently had a monstrous move.  It was a pre-market mover on positive drug study news.  I was hoping that it might be able to replicate some of its past move.  I entered with a tight stop but it was not to be this time.
Entry: 4.21
Exit:  4.04

Position Summary RESN, MPG MOC, PLNR

From time to time it is important to take stock of existing positions. Here are my holdings not including the positions I opened today.

RESN:
Here's my star performer and I believe in everything I've been seeing in the action despite how difficult it might be to hold this on day-to-day basis.  Looking at the weekly it has made it much more clear.  I've bought a lot of this one.
Entry 1: 9.26
Entry 2: 9.05
Exit 1: 10.90 (partial
Entry 3: 10.40
Entry 4: 11.79
Entry 5: 10.21

MPG: A recent IPO.  It's thin, but it is showing some life. I like that it has scalloped out a bottom and appears ready to push higher.  A close above a new weekly high would be the sign to add to this but right now. I'm content with a trial position

Entry: 18.95

PLNR:
When pull back buys work, you look so smart... especially after a move like today.   This was an easy trade in the since that it had a clear defined point where I would take the loss if I were wrong. I figured that there was a decent chance of holding the lows.
Entry 7.03

MOC
This is the only position that I'm down in from $3.08.  I was looking for a Fishhook but that faded. MOC  has shown that an ability for power but the volume has now evaporated.  I would add but the volume has really waned

MOC popped after catching a very large contract from the USPS.  I like the theme of private security after the French terrorist attacks and the fundamental are very much aligned for a higher move...if only the volume comes in.  If it drops below 2.40 I'll thrown in the towel.

OPENED, PSXP, IPHI, ATHX, GDXJ

My stocks are running, market breadth is improving and I opened a lot of positions today.

PSXP is a fantastic weekly breakout.  This was my top prospect from the weekend and it did not disappoint as it rallied up to all time highs.
Entry: 76.40

IPHI: Volume has come on with a High volume weekly breakout. I would have liked this on a pull back, but as this week breaks higher I'll stake out an initial position.
Entry: 21.05
Stop: 19.70

ATHX:
A secondary push higher a high volume push an the end of 2011. This looks like a good risk to reward. Stop at the 6 EMA or first reversal which allows a power move to be captured.
Entry 2.23

Weekly, shows a gap to be filled If gets going 2.70+ could be on board.  PT recently raised from 7 to 9. Seems crazy to target over 400% but who knows.

GDXJ: Following a great burst over the 10Week which I caught a piece of GDXJ but sold for a small gain as caution prevails.  A back test to the 10week  holds and rallies nicely, giving the "jump back in signal" I expect Gold stocks to trade sloppily as there have been many, many false bottoms.  I'm not calling a bottom but I'll trade what I see.

Entry 27.96

CLOSED MIFI

I caught a decent little move in MIFI  I sold it on the close today.  After another 6% move I figured its best not to push the luck here.

Entry: 4.75
Exit 1: 5.10
Exit 2 5.24  10.3%

Closed CALA

This goes in the Oh Shit category. On Friday it closed at the 10 week average, which was my mental stop. In then opened much lower with a wide spread.  I waited it out back to 18.90 and then banged it out.  Of course, it retakes the 10 and pushed higher.

This is a lesson that with Kate Moss stocks I need to trade much lighter.  It's better to add once the volume comes in.

Entry: 22.75
Entry  20.54.
Exit: 18.90 This went for a 2% loss which sucks but was within limits.

Closed: EMES,

I caught a great move buying Feb 48.5 puts on EMES at 62.50.  If I were just short the stock I would let it ride but on OTM options a little caution is order.  The market was rallying so rather than wait for a home run book the profits

Entry: 1.38
Exit: 2.00

Opened MPG, MIFI, Closed CUBA

MPG is a IPO type set up that I like. -- a strong pull back that is followed by a U shaped recovery taking out highs.

Another thin stock in my portfolio so I'm wading in small at this point.

Entry: 8.95

MIFI
This one has some power 14% move closing at the high after a  aounce off 20 day MA. which I'll use to gauge the health of this.

Entry
4.75.
Stop 4.25

Closed:
My CUBA thesis didn't quite work.  There was a winning trade as it gapped up to 10.00 but I missed it.  I had small size so I decided to give it a go at 10:00 which proved too tough.  So instead of a small gain, I end with a small loss. But I'm fine with that as this trade caused no damage to my account.

Thursday, January 22, 2015

Opened: PLNR, CUBA

I bought PLNR as it reversed from the lows and went green. This has a reversal type of look to it and could pop back up 10-15% and if the market heads higher another run at 9 is not out of the question.

Entry: 7.03
Stop: 6.70
If it gets below 6.50, however, it could be a short.

CUBA:
I make a thousand arguments why this ETF should not  being going  up. When I was an unsuccessful trader,  I used to make such arguments.  I became a profitable trader when I realized that rationalization  is a futile  exercise.

The price action says there is money to be made on the long side. And the history of CUBA shows what happens to traders trying to argue when the stampede begins.
$9.73
Stop: 9.20

Opened EMES Short (via puts); CALA long.

CALA

I bought CALA as it continues to consolidate  after a 300% 1 week power move.  The fact that this has bounced off the 10MA suggest that this could still be in play

Dynamic daily:

Theme: drug that shrinks breast cancer tumors.  Management previously ran a private biotech that had a cancer treatment.  That company was sold for over 700Million.  That suggests there is a high level of competence.

Float: 17 Mill.
Market cap. 386 Mill.

EMES:
I've been waiting for this to trade up to the 10 Week average. It did today and was rejected.  Given how well that has tracked this stock, I feel that it presents a low risk entry to the short side.
I bought the Feb 48 puts. for 1.38

Entry: $22.75

closed RUSS

RUSS cut through the 10 Week EMA today.  I'd rather cut bait than hope for a bounce.

Entry: 24.55
Exit:  22.04

Sunday, January 18, 2015

Opened USLV

I've been waiting for the Silver Breakout for several months now. I think we've got it and I'm aboard with USLV.

Entry: 25.88

Thursday, January 15, 2015

Opened RUSS

RUSS holds the 10EMA I bought the bounce.
Entry:  $24.55
Stop at close < 10 EMA

Opened shorts, UA, UAL

I don't see the broad market being that healthy right here.  I missed my top choice short GMCR as the bid just faded and I didn't want to chase.   I'm getting short a couple of "weak tops"  both have are showing bearish divergence.

UA has a nice series of 3 lower highs and lower lows.
Entry: 66.89

UAL
This one looks very top but has not broke yet.  It hit a high with negative divergence which shows there is not much left here.

The fact that AAL and DAL have headed south makes this worth a shot.  With my shorts, I look for well defined risk levels and at 67.5 would be my out.
Entry: $65.56

This is the type of sell off I'm looking for with UAL.  IMO, it's just 2 or 3 days behind.

Opened Longs, GDXJ, JCP

A lot of miners had some decent looking charts.... (I went through hundreds of charts this weekend.)  Rather than mess around with individual names I went into GDXJ.  Perhaps its because last year at this time I went in to GDXJ for a 10+ point move. Here we have aice little flag and a breakout out.

Entry: 28.13
Note, I sold off half my position at 28.83
Stop 6 EMA.

JCP:
Hit a nice gap with narrow consolidation after a gap test.
Entry: 8.08
Stop 7.55

Open Positions Summary.

RESN:
After a major breakout move, RESN has a consolidation week.   I'l look for last week's lows to hold an perhaps another push forward.
CARA:
A nice three week consolidation followed by a breakout, It retested the 10s and held.  Now, I want to see a close above $11, which has presented some trouble for  CARA this past week.  If it gets going this could be a monster.  A relatively small float + IPO neglect, + exciting new drugs.
MOMO:

After a solid rejection, MOMO has consolidated. I believe this has a lot of ingredients to power ahead but this will be a make or break week. The consolidation should break one way or the other.... TBD.

Closed Winners ISIS, NOAH, CDXS, Losers ARNA, ODP

The market is not feeling the way it should with the expected V shaped recovery fading.  I decided to  close a number of positions  and play defense should more broad selling be in order.

ISIS:
Caught a nice Breakout, but did not like the 2nd day fade. So I'm out.

Entry: 68.76
Exit: 72.92
+$4.16.

CDXS:
I hit another nice breakout here with CDXS running all the way to 3.29.
Entry 2.93
Exit. 3.22
+.29
9.89%

NOAH:
This one had a lot of potential, but I wind up with mediocre profits as the the bounce on  Thursday was rejected forcefully.

Entry: 19.45
Exit 1:  21.45
Exit 2: 20.46

The weekly Chart looks like it is make or break time. If it starts to bounce of the 10 Week. I should look to re-enter.  But I want to see that test first.

And Loses are part of the game as long as they are small, I'm fine.

ARNA was a Fishhook set up hat I jumped instead of waiting for the trigger and I paid the price:

Entry: 5.93
Exit: 5.58

ODP:
I entered as I thought ODP would find a bottom and then resume.  Instead I got a late day fade, and then follow through to the downside. Stopped out
Entry: 8.50.
Exit.  8.10
